Shalom and thank you for joining us to another episode of Living Supernaturally. We have been
focusing on being an instrument in God’s hands. Today, our focus is on how we can be salt and
light as we are called to be instruments. Mathew chapter 5, verses 13 to 14 reads, ‘You are the
salt of the earth. You are the light of the world.’ When God calls us to be His instruments, He
wants us to influence the world around with His love, truth and grace. Jesus used two powerful
metaphors to describe this- salt and light. Why did Jesus use these metaphors? These
metaphors actually communicate the essential role of what His followers must be like in this
world around. Taking salt- in the natural, salt is what preserves and brings about flavor to the
food that it is put in. As followers of Christ, we are called to preserve truth and righteousness in
a world that is decaying morally. We are also called to add to the flavor of God’s grace to our
everyday interactions. The other metaphor that Jesus uses is light. Light dispels darkness, it
guides and it brings about all that is hidden and reveals truth. When we shine the light of Christ
through our words and actions, we help others see the hope that is found in Jesus. Just as a
lamp is not hidden but placed where it can be illuminated, we are meant to live boldly for God
so that we can reflect the love of God in our families, communities and church. Our faith should
be visible, not hidden or compromised by fear. Being an instrument in God’s hands means we
are available for His purpose and it requires us to stay close to Him, allowing His word to shape
us and live in a way that radiates His goodness. So, in whatever way, whether it is through a
word or action, we are called to salt and light. In our community here at All People’s church, we
believe that every believer is a minister which means that each one of us, have a calling to be
salt and light wherever we are placed. We bear witness to His name and to the gospel as His
instruments. So, let us take on our place and be that salt and light. Let’s pray together,
Heavenly Father, we thank you for the vison that we are called to be salt and light. Wherever
we go, may we preserve your truth, may we come to a place of bringing the flavor of the love of
God, may we be that light that dispels darkness by bringing about your gospel. Even as
ministers of your word, we pray that your Holy Spirit will equip us and will help us, in Jesus’
name we pray, Amen.
