Hello everyone, we're talking about the blood of Jesus and let's continue to see the power of
the blood of Jesus and the work that the blood of Jesus has done for us. Let's read again from
Leviticus chapter 17 and verse 11 that states, ‘for the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have
given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that
makes it an atonement for the soul.’ God had instituted the shedding of blood in order to
receive atonement. What is atonement? Let's try and understand this word. The word
atonement comes from the root word in Hebrew ‘coffer’ and it means to cover, to cancel,
appease, cleanse, disannul, pardon and so forth. So, covering sin was required and it was
necessary because God is a holy God and man is sinful. So, it is impossible to approach a holy
God with sin. There needed to be the covering of sin in some way. So, God provided through
this action for atonement where the shedding of blood needed to be done. We see in the Old
Testament that there were animals with certain criteria/ requirements who were chosen for
shedding of their blood. And then we also observe that the High Priest would go into the
presence of God once a year on the Day of Atonement and sprinkle the blood of these animals
in order to appease God's wrath and also to come into His presence and receive God's
presence. But as we look at what Jesus has done for us, we understand that He has become the
lamb of God who has taken away our sins. We read about this in John chapter 1, verse 29, John
1, verse 36 where Jesus is called as the lamb of God. So, Jesus came with the mandate to die for
our sins, to pay for our sins and His blood is that perfect blood which was shed for us once and
for all because of which we do not need the shedding of blood over and over again. The reason
the people had to keep doing that was because it was not perfect, those sacrifices were not
perfect. But we look at Jesus, He is a blemishless lamb, spotless and blemishless. As the apostle
Peter puts it in 1 Peter chapter 1. And so, this is the work of Jesus for us. He brought us
redemption as Ephesians chapter 1 and verse 17 tells us and this redemption through His blood
also brings our forgiveness. And this is the reason you and I can now pursue a relationship with
God and our sins can be forgiven. It's really amazing to see what God has done for us and how
He has provided through His beloved son and His sacrifice. Let's pray together and let's thank
God for what Jesus has done for us. Lord, we thank you for sending Jesus, we thank you for the
pure blood of Jesus that cleanses us, that takes away our sins and for bringing us back into your
presence and reconciling us back to you. We thank you for Jesus and His blood, in Jesus' name
we pray, Amen.
